Whether you’re completely new to massage, get one every so often, or massage is your way of life. I want everyone to get the most out of my massage treatments, so i’ve put together a few simple tips to make sure your massage experience is the best it can be, and the benefits you will feel last even longer.

Take a warm shower
Not only will you feel fresh and relaxed ready for your massage, but if you take a warm shower beforehand it will help to loosen your muscles and prepare your body for your massage.
Drink plenty of water
I can't stress this one enough! Staying hydrated is mega important both before and after a massage. Beforehand, it can help your muscles prepare for the application of pressure and movement. Afterwards, it helps to flush away those nasty toxins that are released into your body and hydrate the muscles. Adding an extra glass or two will help your body to get rid of all the nasties and keep you feeling better for longer.
Avoid caffeine and alcohol
Well, for the rest of the day anyway. After a massage I would always recommend to avoid both caffeine and alcohol, they are both diuretics, which means you lose more fluid than you actually drink, which works against your water intake. Instead of helping your body to absorb water effectively and flush out the toxins, it will have the opposite effect and your body will struggle to get rid of them, and this was the whole point, right?
Avoid eating before your massage
Eating a big meal before a massage is a big no-no. Not only can it be quite uncomfortable and leave you feeling a little bloated, but it can ruin your whole experience. It's best to keep it light and eat at least 2 hours before your massage, to allow the food to get digested beforehand.
Hit the gym before, not after
Exercised muscles really feel the benefit of massage, so hitting the gym before will mean you get them most out of your session. Working out after your massage is not the best idea as you can strain your muscles that have just been relaxed, running the risk of injuring yourself. I'd recommend to leave it 24 hours before the hitting the gym or working out again.
Remember to breathe
Sometimes without realising it, we can tend to hold our breath during a massage. Try to catch yourself and breathe fully and deeply. It's really important to oxygenate the blood to help those tense muscles, especially if I'm working out a knot.
Enjoy it!
After all this is why I'm here. Remember this is your bit of me-time away from any stresses or distractions, so make the most of it. Let all your thoughts go, focus on the touch and the way it makes you feel, the endorphins will do the rest.
Book your next appontment
Massage works best when you have them regularly. The more you have, the better you're going to feel. Some people have them once a week, others prefer them once a month, is completely up to you. Just listen to your body, and when its telling you to give me a call.
